“What are they doing differently that makes them Successful?”
How can I be successful?
Success doesn’t come from your name or personality but from what you do. The mantra of success is not difficult; it is those simple qualities in each one of us that we need to tap into. Let me share a few of them here.
Know your strengths & discover your talent
I can be good at selling things, or may be I’m good at managing a project, or managing people, or something as simple as writing letters. Others may be great at public speaking, stitching the best clothes, cooking the best food, or in an office environment, making the best power point presentations. I may be good at relationship-building with customers, or I could be the best technician, or the best teacher around. Whatever I am good at, I must discover what my strengths are.
Being committed
Once I discover my strengths, I need to commit to them. I should harness the power of my strengths on a daily basis and by doing so, grow them further. I should also remain faithful to the task or the cause I have undertaken. Even the most meagre task of cleaning an office, if done faithfully, will make others notice and make you rise in your career. When we perform a task faithfully by putting our best into it, that brings us true inner joy, and this is what real success is about.
Self-motivation and persistence
If we get up in the morning and we are blank, if we do not know what we will do for rest of the day, then our day will turn out to be useless. Self-motivated people plan their day ahead by having a to-do-list, a list of preset goals, and the will to achieve them. Procrastination, or the thought of delaying or postponing a task to another time, will let success remain in your dreams and never turn into a reality. Work hard every day towards achieving your goals, and stay persistent towards them until achieved.
To sum up the above qualities, remember that we lived the life of hunters once. A hunter must leave home early in the morning, use his strengths and best of his skills to make a kill, and return home by the evening with food for his family, or tribe. A good hunter knew what his strengths were, used them faithfully on the field, and stayed self-motivated and persistent until his goal was achieved.
I take this opportunity to honour the Hygiene Workers and Officers all over the world, whether they are keeping our streets clean or our homes and offices safe. If not for them and the hard work day they perform every day to keep our surroundings clean, we may end up with more nasty pandemics like Covid, every now and then. Mr. Eric Mensah is the Chief Hygiene Officer at IPMC’s Adabraka Office. His dedication to his work is inspirational. He’s a truly successful person in my view.
